Review For Jack the Giant Slayer

A mash-up of old-school heroism, pantomime villainy, starstruck lovers and post-'Shrek' archness, it's more exhausting than exhilarating.
Nigel Floyd-Time Out

It's fast, rousing, and blessedly brief - under two hours instead of, say, nine in three bladder-straining installments.
David Edelstein-Vulture

Not awful, not wonderful, Jack the Giant Slayer is a midrange fairy tale epic that's a lot more ho-hum than fee-fi-fo-fum.
Peter Rainer-Christian Science Monitor

Jack the Giant Slayer is slight, but consistently amusing.
Tom Charity-CNN.com

The movie feels so much like a video game that your fingers instinctively itch to do something, though a Jack video game isn't one we'd really want to play.
Mary F. Pols-TIME Magazine

The script sets up the situation and characters nicely, and the actors are terrific.
Stephen Whitty-Newark Star-Ledger

If this is the new baseline for kid's fantasy films, and not freaking Wrath of the Titans, we're in very good shape.
Will Leitch-Deadspin

Jack the Giant Slayer is a quick and simple action adventure that comes loaded with plenty of laughs and CGI spectacle.
Jeremy Lebens-We Got This Covered

If anything "Jack the Giant Slayer" proves it's about time we begin inventing new fairytales.
Felix Vasquez Jr.-Cinema Crazed

Director Bryan Singer, who made The Usual Suspects and earlier X-Men movies, does a bit of good-hearted slumming with this CGI-heavy fantasy.
Phil Villarreal-COEDMagazine.com

Although a fairy tale, the movie is presented as a big-budget, special-effects blockbuster that plays as much like Clash of the Titans as a Disney cartoon. That places a lot of limitations on audience.
Forrest Hartman-Reno Gazette-Journal

Jack The Giant Slayer is an entertaining family adventure, with moments of tension and humour in equal measure.
Sam Bathe-Fan The Fire

dull and perfunctory
Bill Gibron-Film Racket

Apparently spent most of its 'giant' $195 million budget on lavish, impressive special effects and nary a tinker's nickel on the ho-hum script.
Bruce Bennett-Spectrum (St. George, Utah)

The cast seem stilted, even a bit surprised, to find themselves in the fictitious land of Cloister, dressed in panto regalia with dreadful hair-dos, no doubt under orders to deliver their lines with a touch of deliberate theatricality.
Simon Weaving-Screenwize

Thanks to the marvel of digital visual effects and the clear influence of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings, [director Bryan] Singer does a terrific job showing us just how realistic a battle set in a fantasy world can look.
Jim Schembri-3AW

... a clever yet gentle twist on a familiar story, and one that multiple generations can share.
Todd Jorgenson-Cinemalogue.com

Between the magic beans or a ticket to this film... maybe take the beans.
Tom Glasson-Concrete Playground

The family audience deserves better than this.
Philip French-Observer [UK]

Singer is more concerned with old-fashioned storytelling than chasing a target audience's fleeting fads.
Andy Lea-Daily Star

You don't know Jack. And, I'm not so sure you want to get to know him, because he's a bit on the bland side.
Paul Chambers-Movie Chambers

More half-hearted than a total dud, but flatulent, nose-picking CGI creations are beneath the man who gave us The Usual Suspects.
Stephen Carty-Flix Capacitor

This is, at best, dull escapism but there are a few reasons to keep watching, including Stanley Tucci camping away as the hissable villain and knight Ewan McGregor being sausage-rolled up by a chef colossus.
Alan Jones-Radio Times

We may sigh heavily at the thought of yet another fairy tale blockbuster, but the filmmakers and cast here demand a bit more attention. And sure enough, it's refreshingly smarter and funnier than we expect.
Rich Cline-Contactmusic.com

It could almost be funny, how Jack keeps trying to fly off into could-be fascinating directions and then gets yanked back into a mushy mediocrity.
MaryAnn Johanson-Flick Filosopher

McGregor's dashing Elmont never loses his posh sang-froid... and with Tucci gleefully hamming it up as the villain, it's the supporting cast who are full of beans, rather than the overshadowed young leads.

Reviews The Station Agent New Movie and Watch Full HD

Actor and playwright Tom McCarthy makes his feature film debut as a writer/director with the quirky comedy drama The Station Agent. In New Jersey, Finbar McBride (Peter Dinklage) is a four-foot-tall lonely man who chooses to live the life of a hermit in an abandoned train yard following the death of his friend. While he is there, he unexpectedly meets and befriends a couple of fellow loners. Troubled Olivia (Patricia Clarkson) is an artist devastated by the loss of her son and separation from her husband, while carefree and friendly Joe (Bobby Cannavale) runs a hot dog stand. The three unlikely friends each deal with their urge to connect compared with their individual need for isolation. Also starring Raven Goodwin, Paul Benjamin, and Michelle Williams. The Station Agent won the Audience award at the 2003 Sundance Film Festival. ~ Andrea LeVasseur, Rovi

Review For The Station Agent

Mr. Dinklage projects both size and intelligence in the fascinating reticence of his face.
Andrew Sarris-New York Observer

While many movies reintroduce us to the same old types, The Station Agent is an original -- you've never seen these people on screen before, and it's a pleasure to make their acquaintance.
Moira MacDonald-Seattle Times

The Station Agent never leaves its sleepy patch of New Jersey. But when it's over, you know you've been somewhere.
Charles Taylor-Salon.com

The powerfully understated charmer, The Station Agent, is nothing more - and nothing less -- than the quiet study of a gently unfurling friendship between three misfits.
Megan Lehmann-New York Post

For 88 all-too-brief minutes, we get to hang out with very companionable people, eavesdrop on their small talk and come to know them intimately, perhaps more intimately than we can get to know our own family members.
Joe Baltake-Sacramento Bee

It's a gem to savor.
Kathy Cano Murillo-Arizona Republic

There isn't a character, location or situation in The Station Agent that could exist anywhere other than in a screenplay.
Josh Larsen-LarsenOnFilm

A quiet joy with breathtaking performances.
Nell Minow-Common Sense Media

Peter Dinklage details Fin?s solitude in single glances, but his countenance also warms to eventual friendship. It?s an attenuated, reserved, realistic performance ? bolstered when we learn Fin is silent because shouting only summons repressed rage.
Nick Rogers-Suite101.com

a charmingly simple character study
Jay Antani-Cinema Writer

...a sweet art film that is unapologetic as it is memorable. Peter Dinklage's performance is poetic and pure as any you will ever observe on screen or off.
Cole Smithey-ColeSmithey.com

Charming fable about three misfits who overcome personal and social isolation and learn the meaning of friendship and community in the unlikely place of rural New Jersey
Emanuel Levy-EmanuelLevy.Com

A pleasurably quaint tale.
Nick Schager-Lessons of Darkness

...watching these friends interact is what the movie is about, not what they look like, not what they do, not what they talk about, but how they feel toward one another.
John J. Puccio-Movie Metropolis

The movie has humor that's not derived from ridicule and an appeal based on the idea that relationships can be a comforting buffer in an often cruel world.
Judith Egerton-Courier-Journal (Louisville, KY)

It's The Station Agent's meditation on the smaller things in life that make it such a big deal.
Damon Wise-Empire Magazine

The brilliance of Peter Dinklage's performance as the ironclad loner is that he doesn't much care
James Christopher-Times [UK]

As comforting, a bit hokey, and predictable as a CBS Sunday Night Movie, this intimate film should play well on television.
Kent Turner-Film-Forward.com

Go see The Station Agent. It's one the year's best films and I sincerely hope that it is not overlooked.
Jeff Otto-IGN Movies

This is a gem of a movie that, like its protagonist, boasts a fiercely independent spirit full of discreet optimism and deadpan humour.
Stella Papamichael-BBC

It might almost be a subgenre: the Accidental Family film. It's enjoyable and a welcome break from the studio pictures, but it's familiar to you even as you're watching it.
Jake Euker-F5 (Wichita, KS)

...indie flavor-of-the-month Patricia Clarkson is so predictable in her quirky style that you can set your watch by her.
Thomas Delapa-Boulder Weekly

Illustrates much of what is good and some of what is bad about American independent cinema.
James Verniere-Boston Herald

A little gem.
David N. Butterworth-Movie Boeuf

'[The Station Agent] is quietly effective, touching one moment, hilarious the next'
Lori Hoffman-Atlantic City Weekly

Reviews The Last Exorcism Part II New Movie and Watch Full HD

Continuing where the first film left off, Nell Sweetzer (Ashley Bell) is found terrified and alone in rural Louisiana. Back in the relative safety of New Orleans, Nell realizes that she can't remember entire portions of the previous months only that she is the last surviving member of her family. Just as Nell begins the difficult process of starting a new life, the evil force that once possessed her is back with other, unimaginably horrific plans that mean her last exorcism was just the beginning. Review For The Last Exorcism Part II

By the time the kamikaze crows start dive-bombing the church windows, and the shape-shifting demon appears in a hoody and a Venetian carnival mask, the whole thing has degenerated into a mumbo jumbo gumbo.
Nigel Floyd-Time Out

A generally effective sequel.
Dennis Harvey-Variety

Once the "what is real, what is fantasy" questions are answered, and exorcism part deux commences, The Last Exorcism Part II abandons its half-intelligent, tender exploration of Nell's vulnerability and desirability.
Ethan Gilsdorf-Boston Globe

When the creators of The Last Exorcism Part II swapped pseudo-verité realism for psychological realism, they made it a lot harder to take their franchise seriously ...
Simon Abrams-Village Voice

Viewers are taunted with the possibility of witnessing a possessed chicken.
Josh Tapper-Toronto Star

The Last Exorcism Part II is an effectively unnerving, slow-burn supernatural horror tale.
Mark Olsen-Los Angeles Times

There's a lot to be said for restraint in a horror film, but the filmmakers went for too far of an extreme here.
Phil Villarreal-COEDMagazine.com

Gone is the shaky-cam dynamic. Gone is the whole "devil inside" ideal, and gone is any reason to care or watch.
Bill Gibron-Film Racket

It all builds towards another sequel-ready ending, so expect this nonsensically titled series to run and run.
Alistair Harkness-Scotsman

Writer/director Ed Gass-Donnelly's film offers little ironic edge or incisive imagery, pushing far too hard with an unpleasant emphasis on sexuality, and ending up as a by-the-numbers rehash of the original film's weakest elements.
Eddie Harrison-The List

It's dreary, formulaic stuff that even manages to make a Mardi Gras parade look dull.
Philip French-Observer [UK]

Too many things in Part II only happen because this is a film, with telegraphed sound effects travelling as fast as the speed of light. Only in Hollywood do such rules of physics apply.
Graham Young-Birmingham Mail

When you qualify your movie as the "last" anything, a sequel seems a bit out of the question, but these new filmmakers have essentially relegated the 2010 original to a mere backstory.
Rich Cline-Contactmusic.com

if this ludicrously-titled follow-up sounds like a crass cash-in, ...the devil here is in the details, some of which are strikingly novel.
Anton Bitel-Film4

A movie that doesn't go for the spectacular but slowly and surely a dullness pervades.
Derek Malcolm-This is London

Too much creeping around and a lack of genuine creepiness doom this tepidly spooky experience.
Alan Jones-Radio Times

It's a bit disconcerting seeing the words "Part II" here.
Peter Bradshaw-Guardian [UK]

The movie bellyflops abysmally in its second half.
Tim Robey-Daily Telegraph

An inventive Satanic shocker, which is much more than we expected.
Martyn Conterio-Little White Lies

Ultimately adds very little to the previous film apart from making a mockery of its title and paving the way for future instalments.
Matthew Turner-ViewLondon

Those brave souls who do venture to the cinema to witness this demonic dirge can at least feel relieved that it's nowhere near as dismal a viewing experience as The Devil Inside.
Ben Rawson-Jones-Digital Spy

Poor Ashley Bell, a talented and capable actress done few favours in a film that is thoroughly risible from start to finish.
Shaun Munro-What Culture

An exorcise in futility.
Siobhan Synnot-Scotsman

A stylistic departure from the shaky aesthetic of the first film. Sadly, most of its nervy shocks and creeping sense of unease go the same way.
James White-Empire Magazine

Ashley Bell's nuanced performance and a surprisingly pyrotechnic finale liven up a gloomy sequel.
Ken McIntyre-Total Film

Review For Elemental

Elemental stands out from the perpetual flow of eco-documentaries by at least glancing at some of the personal issues and professional setbacks faced by the activists it portrays.
Walter V. Addiego-Hearst Newspapers

Elemental speaks to the importance of protecting the natural elements: water, air, earth. It's a beautifully filmed piece, even when it's showing us white clouds of pollutants billowing out of a smokestack.
Michael O'Sullivan-Washington Post

The filmmakers behind "Elemental" might have done better to commit to a single portrait and been more fearless about avoiding familiar oratory, but small steps are progress too.
Nicolas Rapold-New York Times

The insightful contrasts within the aggregate picture make up for the film's leisurely pace and lack of narrative propulsion.
Inkoo Kang-Village Voice

It's not the message that matters here, but how Elemental reveals the positive and negative sides of obsession and the personal toll it takes on true believers.
Jamie S. Rich-Oregonian

Inspirational. It finds just the right balance between entertaining the audience and provoking them emotionally and intellectually.
Avi Offer-NYC Movie Guru

Portraits of three environmental activists and the challenges they face in trying to change people's mindsets and spur them on to help stem the tide of ecological disaster.
Frederic and Mary Ann Brussat-Spirituality and Practice

Three eco-activists walk it like they talk it, in a documentary that doesn't have to preach or overload us with statistics to get its message across. Meanwhile, its sobering images of despoiled natural resources vividly speak for themselves.
Michael Sauter-Film Journal International
